On Tuesday 26 February, a great number of enthusiastic carriage driving fans got together for their first meeting of the WDC construction team. At the meeting the members of the construction team got to know each other; under the management of W.C. course builder Arjan Brink the planning for the building procedures for the World Driving Championship Four-in-Hand from 3 to 7 September in Beesd was thoroughly discussed.
On Tuesday evening 8 April, the official go-ahead for the building works of the WDC will be given. In the first weeks, attention will be focussed on preparing the marathon course and setting of the marathon obstacles. At the beginning of May the obstacle stakes will be put in the ground. In total, the route encompasses 19 kilometers over the grounds of the WDC location on the country estate Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt in Beesd. The eight spectacular marathon obstacles with, among other things, two tremendous water obstacles and a fabulous dovecote will be on the grounds of the country estate.
In the week running up to the World Championships, the construction team will be working every day. Not only will they be finishing the obstacles but also putting the final touches to the structuring of the whole grounds, they will be, among other things, putting up of fences, flagpoles and route signs. The aim is to have everything ready by Saturday afternoon 30 August at 15.00 hours!
During the competition days there will be a smaller construction team on hand and also after the event the team will be working hard to clean the grounds to return them in perfect shape.
